The Township of Bordentown, NJ-  Director of Community Development. This position will administer and enforce the Township’s Land Use, Zoning, and Property Maintenance Codes. The Director will also serve as the Secretary to the Township’s Planning Board (which also serves as the Zoning Board) and provide administrative and technical support including escrow and bond management, scheduling, and enforcement. The Director will work in coordination with the Department of Public Works to help manage the Township’s infrastructure improvements. The Director reports to the Township Administrator and works with the Administrator on special assignments. The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Public Planning and/or Public Management, and have at least 5 years of land use and zoning experience. NJ professional planner certification preferred and Engineering certification is considered a plus. Strong organizational and communication skills are required as well as a thorough knowledge of NJ MLUL, zoning principles and practices, development application procedures, grant application and management, redevelopment processes and affordable housing. Responsibilities include: reviewing all zoning permit applications, making appropriate interpretations based upon a thorough knowledge of the Township Code and issuing or denying permits accordingly. This position will also be responsible for identifying zoning violations and taking necessary enforcement steps including written notifications, issuance of summons and testimony in court. The position requires a minimum of two years of experience as a Zoning Officer, a NJ Zoning Official certificate, the ability to review and evaluate development plans and provide clear and concise written reports, and a working knowledge of the MLUL.
